Yet again went to another Treasure Hunt by EM. This time its only in KL. In Great Eastern Mall and The Weld to be exact. It was kinda easy by their normal standard but I was a little disappointed we didnt get a good placing. We made careless mistakes and everything was so close. We figured and timed everything quite well but it was just too close. There weren't enough tough questions to differentiate the good decoding strategic team with the others.
I believed we got only a couple unfigured answers which were:
Q: 50 in 43? - A: Blush : L =50 and 43 is Bush (43rd president). Geram cause the Q should put 43rd instead of 43
Q: Speilbergs list - A: Schindlers : we were looking all over (walls, signs, etc) for the answer but it was the logo on the floor of an escalator.
A few others we didnt get was due to spelling error and me putting in 2 sachets of sweetener instead of the instructed 1 for the treasure (biggest flop - i feel bad letting my team down).
For the error our excuse was that while hunting in the mall, everybody was so closed and tried to copy or figure out by watching each other. So we were sooo worried that we didnt really copy properly. As for the sachets of sweetener, we had to get the treasure from the organizer and they tricked us into giving 2 while we had to hand in only 1. They also keep pressuring not the see other teams see cause there were like 3 other teams lining up behind me. So I just hurried and stashed it away without looking back.. my bad guys.
But apart from that, I believe we did tremendously well but it was just too close. The only 2 teams that got the really hard questions and so forth. The food on the other hand was superb. Didnt take pics cause was too hungry after the hunt. A special thanks to Shahir and Sakeenah for being great team mates. We sure did have fun!!!!!
For this month of September, the challenge at Scrap-It-Lahis to use 70% of our favorite manufacturer products in a layout. It is perfect time to use my DT kit, Basic Grey June Bug collection, courtesy of Michelle (Thanks dear!). I just love the vibrant colors of the collection. It fits this lovely picture of Zazamazu by Amrufm. Come and join us at Scrap-It-Lahthis September, lovely RAK awaits the winner!!
As part of our annual event, we entered the ExxonMobil treasure hunt held by ERC (ExxonMobil Recreational Club) last weekend. We have been doing this for the past 5 years and somehow this time we had the best time. Maybe its because we ditched the kids... hahahahha first time ever. Felt guilty but rejuvenating at the same time. Sorry kids but thats why we brought you to sunway lagoon a few days before (rasa less guilty). Anyways, Mama & Ayah needs a break, some alone time and a second honeymoon desperately.
This year we (Maz & me) went hunting with another couple Shahir and Sakeenah. Both were rookies at treasure hunting but you couldnt tell with their smart wits, eagle eyes and calm collective personality (Shahir is one of the calmest person i have ever met... macam tok guru Nik Aziz). Cant ask for better team mates. Everybody 'gelled' well, had good chemistry and did their jobs well.
The thing to highlight was we had a very good approach to the hunt and executed our strategies extremely well and efficiently. It shows because we ended up 5th (the best position we had ever had) out of 40+ teams, arrived half and hour early (only 6 cars came on time), couldnt get only the ridiculously hard questions, finished only 6 points out of 110 points or so behind the leaders (they win every time and seem like professionals) and most importantly we were happy and enjoying ourselves (you can really see the other team stressing out especially with each other).
From our efforts, we won Jaya Jusco coupons worth RM500. Money back and more. I have already decided to buy a Bumble Bee transformer robot with my winnings (promised my boy and didnt have extra money before). The only regret i have was that the points separating the 2nd to 5th top teams were only a 2-3 points and the prizes were about RM100 more for each top positions. But we achieved our target to be top 5 although Shahir dreamed we won. Sorry mate, maybe next time.
So heres a few of the ridiculous questions for your amusement (courtesy of Suresh - a really good quizzer/organizer, have enjoyed/amazed by all his questions for the past 5 years):
Q: i? Ans: the heart of commitment. Heart meaning the core/middle of the word commun'i'cation
Q: 24 to 11? Ans: 10:36 (time). Imagine a hugh billboard with TV's, fridge and a DVD player. And on the DVD player, the clock showed 10:36
Q: Damaged, all dead? Ans: Eviola. Damaged is code for anagram and "all dead" = "0 alive"
Q: Second from last is nothing? Ans: x+y = x. When you work out the math, you get Y(second last alphabet)=0 (nothing)
Q: Mother in Silk? Ans:Sumatera (in a small map logo). Mother = Ma and silk = sutera.
Having mentioning the question we have to say thank you to our highly reliable info resources. Our own walking talking wikipedia Mr. AZ and google-it expert Miss K.
So apart from the treasure hunt, we had the luxury of enjoying Melaka. We were really sucked in by the culture and attractions. To name a few were the Portugese Red Area, Jonka Street and Padang Pahlawan. We had local delights namely cendol, dodol, sotong bakar, air mata kuching and so forth. Not forgetting buying lovely souvenirs at Jonka Street. Tq Shahir and Sakeenah for bringing us around.
But the best part of our trip must be the dinner we had at Umbai (not Dubai like i and Fariz Fahmi thought). It was about 15 minutes away from our hotel (hotel not that grand and not worth describing) but as usual following Aleq (tak power langsung direction walaupun tak habis2 ngan GPS dia) took about 45 minutes (dahlah lapar giler lepas hunt). The seafood there was SUPERBBBB!!!! and Cheapp!!! really really cheap. We paid only RM310 for 2 huge ikan jenahak bakar, 1.5 kilo sotong goreng kfc, 1 kilo ikan pari asam pedas, .5 kilo ketam sambal, 2 kailan dish, 2 huge ikan siakap masak 3 rasa and sweet and sour, 10 otak2, 7 bungkus nasi lemak, nasi satu periuk and 3 jugs of water including juices. I thought it would cost us more than RM500, thats what you'll get if your in KL. Not to mention it was really fresh. Didnt seem to bother about the lost drive getting there after that. It was worth the wait.
Apart from that we had a relaxing time, most of it spending time with each other (couples quality time). That morning after breakfast we had the taklimat for the answers and prize giving. This ended till the afternoon due to many2 'controversies' to the answers. Ade2 jelah org tak puas hati but all in good fun. Who can blame them, tensiooonn if the answers was right in front of your face and you couldnt get it at the time.
I'm guessing it is very clear that we enjoy treasure hunting. Wish we could it more often and with more friends involved. Maybe in the future.
Pics will be posted soon!
Here are the pics as promised:

After 2 weeks of scrapping hiatus, I feel like I lost my 'juice' at first. It took me a while to organize my thoughts and have the creativity flowing again. I know that I want to do this Scrap the girls challenge, which is a color challenge. You have to use the color pallets as below in your layout. Love the colors.. so girly.. :)
I did a layout of this photo of a few days old Zara, which was taken by our friend Amru. The photo is like screaming to be scrapped. Just loved the way she is captured in this photo, so angelic and serene.. Thus, I made this simple layout to capture the precious moment.. newborns are just so adorable, don't you think?
It's July already! Here is another very interesting challenge from Scrap-It-Lah.. the Malaysian breakfast challenge! Here is my take for this challenge.. "Someone to watch over me". Love this picture of Zareef and Zara together in matching red sleepsuits. Although Zareef always bullies Zara, I know that Zareef will always watching over his sister.. like a big brother should. :)
I just could not resist the interesting sketch from Bearybox challenge#28, that I created a layout from it. I finally managed to use the large flowers I have in my stash (just love flowers!). I love this picture (thanks amru for the nice shot!) of Zareef and Soraya's daughter, Qariena. Zareef is very close with Qariena @ Nana. Everytime they meet, they will hold hands and go everywhere together... hehe.. (romeo sungguh!)
I entered this layout for Scrap-It-LahMay challenge, and guess what? I won! This is my first time winning a challenge, and am very happy about it :) I didnt expect to win, and this layout was done using free papers from Scrapbook Magazine! Thanks Scrap-It-Lah for the lovely challenge.
Also, I am honored to be part of their design team! Thank you for the opportunity, ladies. Although I am new at this, I'll try my best to create lovely layouts for you guys, and at the same time promote Scrapbooking to more people in Malaysia!
Check out Scrap-It-LahJune challenge, which you have to interpret a lovely sketch by Jessy, in addition to making your own flowers from patterned papers and buttons. This is the same challenge we had in the crop party @ Scrappingville, where I did a layout about Zara's heart-melting smiles. We need more submission, especially to new talents to reveal themselves. It is also a great solution if you're having an artist-block.. just follow the challenge's instructions!
Here is a layout I did for Scrap-It-Lah May challenge. The challenge is to scrap about your mom, or about being a mother. The only condition is to have some form of journaling. So, it can be a layout or a mini album or anything you can think of. I am still experimenting with different techniques, and here I played around with 3D embellishment. I like how the frame turned out.
I am not good with words, so I adapted a poem from www.poemsource.com by Joanna Fuchs as part of the journaling. Here's how the poem goes...
Mama, you're a wonderful mother, So gentle, yet so strong. The many ways you care Always make me feel I belong.
You're a source of comfort; You're my cushion when I fall. You help in times of trouble; You support me whenever I call.
I love you more than you know; You have my total respect. If I had my choice of mothers, You'd be the one I'd select!
Everyday, I try my best to be A mother like the mom you were to me.
Here is a layout I did for Scrap-It-Lah Sketch#1 challenge. It is an online sketch where scrappies submit their layout and the winner get scrappy goodies, or RAKS (not sure what RAKS means, I forgot). Did not hope to win, I did this layout for fun. I like the sketch.. and I have this Valentine kit available that is perfect for the challenge.
Two hearts that beat as one.. our honeymoon pics at Langkawi, more than 5 years ago! :))
