Ready for the El-Classico?

Twice a year there are 2 games in Spanish La-Liga that football fans all over the world keen to watch. No matter if your a Valencia fan, a Kelantan fan or even a Liverpool fan (are there any left?). Its the head-head show down of the 2 biggest clubs in Spain or I would like to consider the world. Yup Real Madrid vs. Barcelona. Its so hyped up over they even have a 'title' for this matchup called "El Classico". No other league matches across the world has a title for its normal league match (as far as I know - could be lying).

Although its just a normal league game (as Shahrul puts it - macam Almeria vs Getafe etc etc) and does not really carry extra weight in the competition, the match is worked up because of its history and all the behind-the-scene that comes with it. Which is the part I love most (especially being a Real Madrid Fan). Barcelona vs Real Madrid rivalry is arguably the most frictional of the club footballing world. Dramas aside the only real weightage of the game is that in Spanish La Liga to determine the winner after the total points are the head to head goal difference (if you can't follow what I mean - NVM, just ignore it).

Madrid is the capital of Spain while Barcelona is like the capital of Catalan. In simple terms both city talk different languages, have different political believes (Catalan wants/consider themselves independent from Spain vs Real Madrid was 'backed' by the Gomen sort off /Real means Royal), different very influential Media's (Radio Barca, Marca Newspaper), different Ultra (Super Fanatic) fans and different views on football. In modern times there is no better venue to iron out these "differences" than a good sporting game. Thats why the importance/emphasis on El Classico.

I can go on and on and on about this but Zareef dah start bangun (its 630am - punyalah semangat lepas subuh terus nak tulis about Classico) and ajak tengok Batman The Bold and The Brave. Cutting this short here is a list some of the stuff that happen previously gearing up and making this Classico a real watcher and I think you would like to know:

  1. Pig Head - Barca's fans threw a real Pig's Head at Luis Figo when he was taking a corner kick. Barca felt betrayed when he was loved and was a star player in Barca but moved to Madrid by plotting with Perez to buy out his contract clause.
  2. Raul's Famous SSSSHHHH celebration - Raul started the famous SSHHHH finger to mouth goal celebration shutting up the whole Nou Camp (100,000 ppl). Cooll right!!
  3. Barca in grown talents/star versus Real Madrids power buying Galacticos
  4. For the previous years the only 2 clubs contending for LA LIGA.
  5. Morinho was an interpreter in Barca but ironically have beaten Barca with 2 clubs he managed (Chealsea and Inter). Morinho itself is a whole new blog entry
  6. Ronaldinho Standing ovation from the Ultras at Bernabeu after a solo effort. This was when Real Madrid was politically unstable.
  7. Ronaldo vs Messi... arguably the 2 most biggest star right now. There are also topping the La Liga goal scoring table. Different qualities in both professionally and personality. Ronaldo solo play/'lawa'/stylo/strong arrogant personality of a winner while Messi a small boy from the kampungs but superbly awesome and talented. Excited to see what they will do against each other.

Ok ok .. got to go.. Zareef dah tanya dah lagi... I leave you with a video of the previous goals Madrid scored at Nou Camp.

HALA MADRID!!!

ps.. Dont forget the game is on a Monday cause Catalan Elections on the Sunday.

Stats of Paul der Krake aka Paul Oktopus/Octupus

The world cup is at its peak (finals) now and apparently all sorts of predictions were proven wrong ala Shabby Singh. Recently the hype about an octopus called paul predictions is the talk of the footballing world. People talk about it more than Carlos Puyol rare goal headers, Anelka's manners or ronaldo's hairstyle. Well if you can get the stats the octopus gets, you might get a Tan Sri-ship in Malaysia not mentioning making a lot of people filthy richhh. Those who are really involve in the betting market are also paying close attention not to mention the Spain PM offering protection for the poor thing after several on dish threat. Even Argentine Chef celebs are posting recipes on facebook. If he was human... he could own Apple, Coke Ikea etc etc...

So here are his stats I took from Wiki. Amazing innit!!!

Some wise footballing words from a true master

The much debated jambulani ball in the world cup is a hot topic. But it isnt an excuse in my personal opinion. And I have always wanted to see what a true master of a kicker can do with it. The best free kick taker in my opion has always been juninho palamwnsjhdhdd (or something like that) brazil/lyon. He is good at all types of free kicks. The dipping, the bending, power shot, placing.. Short and long ranges. Definately better than beckham or cr9.

So here's what he said about it in soccernet:

Juninho also said that, while he is disappointed by the quality of performances in South Africa, the much-maligned Jabulani ball is not to blame. "I bought one and I went to test it," he said. "The ball requires a little practice, but it's delicious. It's a poor excuse."

Apart from the official messing up/video officiating debate the only let down is the ball in this worldcup I reckon. So here's just what I think and my favorite free kick taker.

ps.. I do think zee germans had an advantage using this ball a few months in the bundesliga.

French toast, french fries etc etc

Aaaaaaaahhhhhhh tension gua. Bengong nya French football team. Buat malu and malu and tambah malu. Whyyy so spoilt and mengada2. Main bola pun susah ke. Main je ah sungguh2. Kalah takpe asalkan u did it professionally. Eeeeiiii memang rasa nak headbutt je sekor2.

I dont know who to blame and for what reasons cause there are so many and I am just so frustated:-

  1. Henry - handball last qualifying jadi tak berkat.
  2. Anelka - main ejek mak lak. dah kau tak efficient kena ah sub. terima ah kau tak deliverr
  3. Evra - tak charisma langsung jadi leader.
  4. FFF - politics and publicity je tahu. hampeeehh!!
  5. Dominic - all the above. baik awal2 lah kau retire. lame duck!!

I can accept they sux but this is just plain embarrassing at the highest level.

Balik masak french toast lahh!!!!!!

ps... going into the world cup i always knew it was a fools hope to support france. Loyal and kenangan Zidane lah ni. I dont think i will supporting france anytime soon.

Gomo and Hobins Hooligans

Disclaimer: This entry does not intend to stereotype the majority of football supporters but targeting the bad apples specifically.

Last night I watched the Piala Liga Malaysia Final on TV. Kelantan vs. Negeri Sembilan . "Gomo Kelate against Jang Hobins " as the saying goes. Didn't expect much from the game but I was surprised at how many people showed up and their passion towards the team. Flags, banner, face paint and even scarfs (you never know when the stadium might get cold in a hot and tropical country like Malaysia) were every where. Its great I told myself: more money in the industry, entertainment for everybody, growth and all that.

The match was emm... not entertaining but their effort was commendable. Loved the pressure and tracking back the defending teams put in (better than even Real Madrid) but not enough flowing football to comment about anything else (kurang intelligent lah kita main). The most surprising thing I
realized (as somebody who watches a lotttt of football) is the number of tackles coming in, I reckoned more than half was obviously seriously missed time and malicious but the irony was that most of them was ignored. Maybe its just the Malaysian way. Gomo lah katakan. Ohh i forgot..the Indra Putra free kick goal was superb! (giving credit when its due)

I was brought back to earth why I hate Malaysian football (main takde ah terror sangat, kecoh je lebih) starting when I saw the supporters throwing objects to the player that was taking the corner. Thats just too much. It even physically effected him taking it (bola tak cun as before) something unacceptable in football. Tak sportsman like, fair and all that. The linesman was not even protecting him but keep rushing him to take it plus there was an FRU guy about 2 meters away that could have done something about it. Malaysian way lagi. Not to mention the mercun, fires started and the breaking in gates. Ingat barang2 murah nak repair. I dont get why they just cant think. Most other cases its mainly due to the influence of alcohol. I dont think its the case here. I think its the influence of stupidity and low mentality.

I hope they catch the buggers and make them pay to set an example to others.

ps.. Negeri Sembilan won 3-1 not that it really mattered to me.

Singing the praises of CR9

Recently I have been following the best team in the world Real Madrid. Its been an impressive run. 7 wins from 7 games . 100% record (gloat while you still can). The only team that has the same record is Barcelona (correct me if i'm wrong) but lets not waste our time talking about other teams that are less superior (bakar sikit). The only problem i have with the limelight is that the media seems to highlight more on Ronaldo than the whole team. I dont blame Ronaldo and just have to accept the media way of reporting (always trying to find the hero and villains)

As a Real Madrid fan, I cant ignore Ronaldo's contributions in all this. CR9 has undoubtedly been doing his job and proving his worth. Yes all GBP80Milllions of it. I have never been a big fan of his mainly due to him being full of himself but i do admire his abilities. But somehow he is winning me over maybe because he has cooled down on the antics (mengada2 giler dulu masa pakai baju merah) and he has matured in his game especially while wearing white. The real turnkey for me was on one of his goal celebration, he ran straight all the way to the bench and hugged Raul. Raul hugged him back in a true comradeship manner. That was enough for me to forget all his 'poyo'ness before. For you guys who dont seem to understand why please bare in mind "Raul is Real Madrid and Real Madrid is Raul". A quote not just coming from me or the fans, ppl like Real Madrid Presidents, Legendary players like DiStefano and Hierro and RealMadrid.com says it. If Abang Long Raul respects/likes you, that goes a long way for fans like me.

Just by stating CR9 is a great player might get critism. He is probably the most booed person in the sport (theres a saying, fans dont boo bad players on the contrary they boo good ones). The thing i dont get is that what the hell a team/fans that has no history, no bad air gets all riled up to boo him (example Toronto and Washington FC). If he was acting out or being poyo its expected. Maybe its the way he dribbles which I agree is overly done and some people take it as a way to show off and pisses off the defender like hell. The defenders are resorting to harsh tackles and dirty tricks which i think CR9 has to live with, a price to pay for being good (Pele went through it during one of the world cups - limped out the tournament with a broken leg). Somehow too nowadays Ronaldos free kick and penalty claims seems more convincing than before (maybe im biased but i just dont see it as diving anymore).

Since hes doing really well, i have decided to show you the stats below to prove it. No doubt for a midfielder to bypass a striker in goal tally is remarkable. It is more spectacular to get an average of a goal per game. Its GBP80 Millions awesome to have an average of 1.28 goals per game in top flight competitive games. So if this gets going on he might get 60+ goals this season (i wish). I believe he can but he has to be smart and more manly about things. Stop PMS-ing and poyo-ing. Holding back on the hair cream may help too. Hala Madrid!! .......... oklahhh Hala CR9 (on a quieter note)

European Top-scorers

Check out my baju raya!!

Other people buy songkoks, sampins, tudung et al. Same o same o. So i decided to treat my self to a shirt that i would really like to wear and dont mind spending (RM60 je - Bangkok mari). Personally it beats wearing a sampin anyday!!! Benzaammaaaa!!! Hala Madriddd!!

Next plan is to buy Kaka for Maz (she insists Kaka even though i wanted to get Kaka for Zareef - mentang2 lah Kaka hensem), Granero or Lass for Zareef and Ronaldo for Zara. It would be my dream to go ber'raya'ing with all the family pakai Real Madrid jerseys. Just have to pass the idea to Maz.

ps... tq Adri for the superb jersey.

Karim Benzema is my new football hero

I have always adored Zidane and since the world cup finals 2006 i have missed watching him play very very dearly. Never fails to lift my spirits up especially when I am down, pissed off and stressed out (always makes me forget all the stupid stuff somehow). I have been trying to find a new football hero that will take the same effect on me. Yes it may sound 'poyo' or weird but it is an important part of my boring life. I believe i have finally found one. He is......

KARIM BENZEMA
with my no.1 hero Zidane

I can tell you all the reasons why i like him (its been a while 1 year plus) and try to convince others he is the man to watch but that will take forever. I'll take my time with it but i just want to make it official to all that Karim Benzema is my new hero. I dont want people saying 'dah menang award itu ini baru nak cakap your hero' or anything yang akan membakar jiwa bolaku. To me his the best attacker since the great Ronaldo gemuk (at his prime.. not time dia gemuk). If he keeps on doing what his doing (being in real madrid helps a lot), he can surpass all the strikers that i know and admire. That is what i am waiting for.

So lets all sit back and enjoy the show. Monsieur Benzema you may begin...

ps.. I bet my pitiful TNB salary he can win the Ballon D'or in the coming years.

Real Madrid's business model

As a Real Madrid fan (self-proclaimed), i cant help defending the club when people talk bad about it (even though kadang2 menegakkan benang yg basah). The talk now is the so called 'madness' spending spree buying ronaldo & kaka (total around euro 150m or so). many more to come mind you. Here are my amateurish arguments (what little i know - escape clause):

1) yes the world finances are unprecedented in trouble. credit crunch, shadow banking and all that. but football (big 5 euro leagues) are among the few industries that has seen an increase in revenue (10%, total of euro 7.7bil) based on Deloitte's.
2) Real Madrid finances does not depend on billionaires (e.g chelsea abrahamovic, man u glazers, liverpool gilette, arsenal russian oilmen) but its own revenue-generating ability (not bad for a non-profit organization). Anyways, if a bank has confidence in giving you loans nowadays that means its feasible (of course they do their homework). Shows good management and market confidence in a way. Perez claims the money is from the club and not his pocket which is a rare thing today.
3) Management is democratic. election every 4 years by the 70000 odd members. members must pay the annual fees $191 and be a season ticket holder. (please forgive the election rigging of 2008 dec elections - damn calderon). So when management mismanaged it can be overthrown. Therefore actions taken are on the consensus (so called lah). Thats why its a very stable organization unlike certain clubs that follows dilly dally its new owners.
4) Its been proven right. just look the revenue has double since 2002. coming up to more than euro350m annually and about euro 70m profit.
5) Real Madrid have 3 major revenues category. below is the chart from delloite.

6)Matchday revenue/attendance is the 3rd highest in europe and not much room for growth as i understand as nearly 80-90% seats are sold before the first kick of the season.
7) Merchandise. yet again proven to work. Beckham case, t-shirt sales in japan itself dah cover its transfer fee. i wouldddd LOVVEE to have a Kaka jersey. Ronaldo not that much. 50% of the players rights also go to the club. sponsors lagi such as addidas, bwin and others.
8)The real carrot is in the Tv rights especially the emerging markets. the team that has the most marketable players and supporters will get the best TV deals. Another point, for example Asia has many Man U followers (some ronaldo's followers). what better way to steal their fans (especially yg follow stars) by buying its star players.
9) One time a commercial director said real madrid wants to be like a hollywood film. get audience addicted stars (tom cruise, angela jollie) to attract ppl to watch the movie comparing it to getting galacticos to play with them.
10) Many financial experts have not mention real madrid spending is 'madness' but contrary instead stating it as smart business model. its the non-financial ppl that are saying bad things (which i understand.. because its just too much money and makes the football industry shaky).

so.. thats my supporting argument on the matter. please feel free to argue and say your take on it.

ps.. i think this a classic example of "spend big, win big" and "the rich gets richer and the poor get poorer".

KAKA, KAKA, KAKA!!! Hala Madrid!!!!

First thing in the morning i checked whether Kaka is coming or not (they said they wanted to announce midnight euro time.. lama tunggu = 2 years). WASSSSUPPPPPP!!! my dream came true. its official Kaka has arrived. once again, i repeat KAKA HAS ARRIVED!! Note to all skeptics never underestimate real madrid eventhough it costed Euro 65m (pounds 56m) second highest transfer fee behind zidane Euro 76m ( pounds 46m).

Its a terrific victory. i always knew zidane and perez would get the job done (from the very first day zidane came in, i knew its time for greatness). in a gentlemanly manner lagi. its not that easy (real hardcore fans understands this - especially for someone like Kaka). it always has and always been the core value of real madrid to keep check its manners and gentleman conduct (sorry for the past 3-4 years under calderon - buat malu je).

Few details about Kaka (my next idol after zidane):
Full Name: Ricardo Izecson Dos Santos Leite (panggil kaka due to little brother panggil manja)
Status: married (childhood sweetheart) with 1 child. Sorry girls..
Date of Birth: Apr 22, 1982
Nationality: Brazil
Resume:FIFA World Cup 2002 (tak kira sangat sebab sub je), Serie A 2004, Italian Super Cup 2004,UEFA Champions League 2007, UEFA Super Cup 2007, FIFA Club World Cup 2007, , Serie A Footballer of the Year 2004, 2007, UEFA Champions League Top Scorer 2007, UEFA Club Footballer of the Year 2007, FIFPro World Player of the Year 2007, Ballon d'Or 2007, FIFA World Player of the Year 2007. (zidane and ronaldo gemuk je yg ade better resume.. that i know of.. correct me if im wrong.. nahhh.. im right!)

i havent been this excited about football since zidane left in 2006 (final worldcup 2006 - sedih giler time tu). This news has lift my confidence in real madrid and renewed my football enthusiasm. semangat dah membara dah ni.. tak sabar dah ni. Hala madrid!!

ps.. icing on the cake kalau kaka amik jersey no. 5. seems like only ballon d'or/world cup winner team captains/ fifa world player of the year je layak pakai.

Football wishes 4 this season

Its the time of the footballing season that clubs either make or break. This season we can see a few close races in several titles. Below are my wishes or predictions for this season.

1) Champions league goes to Barcelona
2) La Liga goes to Barcelona (sorry to admit, madrid memang takde harapan lah)
3) Copa Del Rey goes to Barcelona (want someone else to win a treble, so Man U. tak berlagak sangat)
4) Premier League goes to Liverpool (still can do it.. if liverpool dont mess it up, but still hoping Man U fumble - kesimpulannya taknak Man U. menang apa2)
5) Fa Cup goes to Chealsea (they have to win something with all that money - sorry Man City you have nothing to show)
6) Budesliga goes to Bayern Munich (still a small fan to Ribery)
7) Serie A goes to Inter Milan (but whos watching Italy nowadays? boring and too many old ppl - thats why Kaka have to go to Real Madrid)

In a nutshell, yes as a real madrid fan i admit this year is a dry year for us. No Cibeles fountain celebration. I blame the comical management and board instability. But from the ashes, Madrid will reemerge. Stability will be back (cause perez and zidane are coming come june 14).. not a lot of ppl are closer to the hearts of the fans other than Zidane. I heard the plan is to clear out around 12 ppl to make way for the second generation of galacticos - Kaka, Benzema, Ibrahimovic, Fabregas, Xavi Alonso, Tevez, Silva, Villa, Iniesta (all rumours though - and no ronaldo!!!). So lets just pray for the best.

ps... why am i talking about real madrid... i was intending to right about my title winner predictions?? subconsciously trying to be ready sebelum somebody point out real tak menang apa2

The art of football penalties

Watched the reply of last nights game (chealsea vs. barcelona). Felt the decider came down to the decision of penalty or not? I have always admired the art of getting or getting away with penalties.
Here are some things i would like to share.

Getting penalties:
1) Throw a tantrum whenever anybody touches you ... Just like Christiano Ronaldo
2) Believe that you have been shot from a snipper... Just like Drogba
3) Golek, golek, golek and golek lagi .... Just like dalam iklan 'cari bakat berlakon' tu
4) Beliakkan mata, menganga besar2 pleading to the ref ... Just like Pipo Inzaghi
5) Berlakon injured macam dah nyawa2 ikan..... Just like Thiery Henry
6) Bump into the last man but claim he pushed you... Just like Luca Toni
7) Just fall down by yourself and look all stupid... Just like El-Hadji Diouf (especially time kat liverpool)
8) Jump into the box when fouled even though ur 10 meters away ... Just like Ronaldo Gemuk
9) Always fall on the ball and stop the game to pressure the ref to make a decision ... Just like Luis Figo.

Getting away with penalties:
1) Claim its the hand of god/ or gods intervention ...Just like Maradonna (personal favourite)
2) Act like ur stomach hurt (eventhough kena tangan and it happened 10 minutes ago)... Just like John Terry
3) Have a go at the lines man and act all righeous .... Just like Ashley Cole
4) Ngengek to the coach and ask him to have a go at the ref ...... Just like Oshea
5) Always remind the ref he looks stupid after convincing him you have just watched the replay... Just like Morinho
6) At the press conference before the game, claim the ref always give penalties against you... Just like Ferguson, Morinho, Benitez, Wenger
7) Say ' i cannot deny our confirm it was a penalty'.... Just like linggam

ps.. Add more if u guys think of anything
